Who really condemns you?

I was reading Established Heart.

1 John 3:21, “Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence toward God.”

Then I recall Romans 7:24, “O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?”

The individual whose conscience is defiled will be condemned by the self-imposed law in their heart.

In 1 John 3:21, John clearly says we are condemning ourselves. Amazing. If we have confidence, boldness and words without fear with absolutely no doubt then our heart is established by grace. The caveat is we get in our own way from time to time.

I almost read John referring to the heart of the old man as a totally separate person. Undoubtedly, he is if the old is gone and I am a new creation in Christ.
