Set apart through mental osmossis

1 Peter 1:22, “Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from the heart.”

The Greek word for purified is hagnizo which can mean “pure from contamination.” It is also comparable and akin to the Greek word hagiazo or sanctify which means “the state of proper functioning.

A beautiful definition of SANCTIFICATION I have read I found at http://www.preceptaustin.org/1_peter_12.htm#SANCTIFYING%20HAGIASMOS.

“The Evangelical Dictionary of Biblical Theology: The generic meaning of sanctification is “the state of proper functioning.” Example of the use of a pen. Pen is also at rest when it is being a pen because it does not try to be the pen. It can only be what is designed, created, and originally purposed to be before the foundations of the earth.”

There are a number of key truths to sanctification:

  1. The truth of the Word sanctifies, John 17:17.
  2. Sanctification through faith, Acts 26:18.
  3. The sanctifying work of the Spirit of God, Rom. 15:16.
  4. In Him, we are sanctified, 1 Cor. 1:2.
  5. Sanctification through prayer, 1 Tim. 4:5.
  6. Spiritually purging unto sanctification, 2 Tim. 2:21.
  7. Sanctified by the body of Christ, Heb. 10:10.
  8. Sanctified by His blood, Heb. 13:12.
  9. The sanctifying work of God in our hearts, 1 Pet. 3:15.

So, In Him, my heart and its purpose are established by His faith through the sanctifying work of the Spirit of Truth by the revelation of Him in me because of the His blood He shed and His body that was crucified for me at Calvary.

I died at Calvary with Him. He resurrected again in me and gave me a new life, that is His life, to live in and through me, but simultaneously it is me in Him.

In the Metabolized blog and others I have touch on this, but it is key to walking in Him.

If I turn 1-9 into a to-do list then this blog is useless. That is why I labeled them ‘truths.’ When the light of truth quickens in me, by hearing and hearing the word of truth, it attaches and bonds with other Word in me and faith GROWS in me! My roots grow deeper eternally in Him. This happens ONLY by revelation of Him and His truth in me by the Spirit of the Living God.

Keep in mind, Peter, the apostle to the Jews, in 1 Pet. 1:22, is writing to Messianic Jews. According to the flesh, I am a Gentile Christian. I could read verse 22 legal and say to myself, “I gotta obey the truth if I love Him.”

In Christ, Jew or Gentile, Romans 1:5 says, “By whom we have received grace and apostleship, for obedience to the faith…” Romans 1:16 and Ephesians 1:19 both speak of POWER towards those who BELIEVE. I believe because I know by understanding, Heb. 11:3. Faith gives me understanding.

Paul desires and prays for spiritual understanding in 1 Cor. 14:20, Eph. 1:18, Col. 1:9, Col. 2:2, 2 Tim. 2:7.

This faith is His faith in me.

The knowledge of Him is passive, but explodes, lives in me, and lives itself out in me.

The Light of the Truth shines more than a nuclear explosion in the dwelling place of my heart and mind. It apprehends everything in me slowing osmosing me into His Glory according to the Last Adamic pattern. He is the First and Last.

I am being absorbed into Him and His fullness and He is love.

This is contrary to works.
