What is the origin of “lukewarmness” in the church?

I am of the opinion that lukewarmness in the church occurs because of doctrine mixed or based on self, self-sufficiency, or self-strength. The same type of doctrine or teaching is what was put on the brethren in Galatia. Which is why the apostle Paul said, “Who has bewitched you? Who has put a curse (of the law) on you?” If the ministry of doctrine motivates self, even egocentrism, which is biased towards the fear of judgment this doctrine promotes lukewarmness.m

A lukewarm doctrine ministers to the ‘old self’ and not the ‘new creation’ making me miserable, unfulfilled, defeated, frustrated, inadequate and settling for less.

This is an “Uzza” or “Uzzah” base doctrine.

Uzza or Uzzah is a Hebrew name meaning self-strength.

Under the Old Covenant, 2 Samuel 6:6-7 says,

“When they came to the threshing floor of Nacon, Uzzah reached out and took hold of the ark of God, because the oxen stumbled. The Lord’s anger burned against Uzzah because of his irreverent act; therefore God struck him down and he died there beside the ark of God.”

Uzzah was not a Kohathite. Kohathites were a division of the Levitical priesthood. He was not a Levite priest. The penalty according to Mosaic Law was death.

Numbers 4:15, “After Aaron and his sons have finished covering the holy furnishings and all the holy articles, and when the camp is ready to move, the Kohathites are to come to do the carrying. But they must not touch the holy things or they will die. The Kohathites are to carry those things that are in the Tent of Meeting.”

Under the New Covenant, I have the Spirit of Life not death. I am dead in Christ and died once with Christ never to die again, but live unto newness of life by the resurrecting power of Christ. This same power which all things will be subdued by Him into one, Eph. 1:10.

So, if I have accepted Christ as Lord and Savior in my heart and follow an “Uzzah” based doctrine, I will be miserable and unfulfilled. I will be so because there is no life based on my personal accomplishment or achievement.

Jesus said, “I am the way, truth and THE LIFE.”

Gal. 2:20 (KJV) says, “The life I live IS BY THE FAITH OF THE SON OF GOD.”

Living by His faith under the New Covenant, is totally contrary to obeying a doctrine that ministers “Or else.”

“Do this, OR ELSE.”

“Or else” is the expectation of the judgment of the Old Covenant. How can I be judged anymore by such a doctrine if Christ took all of the judgment of the law and became the curse of the law for me?

Galatians 3:13-14,

“Christ has redeemed us (or bought us back by His blood) from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”), that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.”

Romans 8:1 says,

“[There is] therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.”

In Romans 8:1, is the “no” in “no condemnation” conditional? Under the Old Covenant it is. What covenant is Romans 8:1 said under? The New!

“No” means ETERNALLY NO because Jesus’ blood is the Son of God’s blood shed for me.

“No” means ETERNALLY NO because Jesus Christ, the Most High Priest, in the order of Melchizedek, sat down meaning He is not getting up again to perform conditional works of the law. It is done. Jesus said, “It is finished.” John 19:30.

“No” means ETERNALY NO because death has never had authority over Christ. 1 Cor. 15:55-56. Rev. 1:18. The law cannot judge a dead man or a resurrected man.

This doctrine ministers faith and hope in Him by grace unto life and godliness.
