The Fringe

Watched an episode last night of a new show I’ve been watching lately called ‘The Fringe.’ The show seems similar to X-Files with a twist. I believe the title is in reference to the fringe of science and science fiction.

In a previous episode, an FBI agent named Olivia, fell in love with her partner who I think was a double agent of some sort? Anyways, he came in contact with a horrible flesh eating virus (I think) and is induced into a coma to decelerate the effects of the virus. Through due diligence, Olivia finds this man, Dr. Bishop. He was or is ‘The Fringe’ doctor or scientist. I can’t recall the specifics of the Dr.’s history. The guy is eclectic and out there, but is a scientific genius.

Agent Olivia needs vital information that only her comatose partner knows. In an experiment, Dr. Bishop is able to link them together mentally. Olivia goes into a trance of sorts and eventually her brain waves synchronize with Mr. Coma. Then she finds herself in his consciousness. She finds him and talks with him and he is able to give a the identity and picture of the man who attacked him. In the state of co-mingle consciousness she kisses him. Talk about a bond. Eventually, she wakes up to go find the killer.

I think Mr. Coma is healed, but is then killed in a shooting. So, he’s dead. Or is he?

In the following episodes after Mr. Coma’s death, he comes to visit her. She believes these are hallucinations, but he is able to tell her many factual things that she later confirms. In this most recent episode, needless to say, this is really starting to disturb her. In a conversation, Dr. Bishop notices a change in her lately and asks if she’s okay? She shrugs it off and says something like, “I’m alright.” Then Dr. Bishop asks her, “Have you been seeing Mr. Coma?” Her reply is, “How did you know?”

Dr. Bishop said when she entered his consciousness that Mr. Coma’s consciousness entered hers. He said every time she sees Mr. Coma it is his consciousness manifesting and her consciousness dealing with it.

She asked Dr. Bishop, “Will it this every stop?” Dr. Bishop’s reply was, “Do you want it to?”

That was when I was like, “Whoa!”

This told me that the reason his conscious was in her was because she allowed him in there. The kiss possibly reinforced that bond. More than likely, she had not grieved over her loss either. Her love towards him kept him there. She would not love him though without being conscious of him first, 1 John 4:19.

Of course, I am relating all of this to my relationship with Christ. Christ was Mr. Coma. He did not die. He is alive. His consciousness, or Him, who He is, is in me by the revealing of Him through hearing and hearing His word. My relationship is not hinged on me wanting Him there, but on Him revealing Himself.

In Eph. 3:9, Paul speaks of “the fellowship of the mystery.” In Eph. 5:32, he speaks of a great and profound mystery of Christ and the Church not only of man and wife.

Romans says I am immersed or baptized into Him.
